Rain Causes Extended Water Discharge from Hyderabad's Osmansagar and Himayatsagar
Due to ongoing heavy rains, Hyderabad's Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs continued to discharge water for a second day on Sunday. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) initiated the release on Saturday to manage the inflow.
Following heavy rainfall, the Water Board opted on Saturday to direct water flow downstream into the Musi River. On Sunday, Osmansagar's water level was at 1,788.55 feet, approaching its Full Tank Level (FTL) of 1,790 feet. Meanwhile, Himayatsagar's water level was recorded at 1,761.3 feet, slightly below its FTL of 1,763.50 feet.
Looking ahead, the IMD Hyderabad has predicted very heavy rainfall across various Telangana districts today and has issued an orange alert for September 10 and 11 due to the forecasted conditions. With the anticipated rain, water levels in Osmansagar and Himayatsagar are expected to rise further over the next three days.
